The studio
A small press for grown objects.
Great 3D Impressions is a one-printer operation — shelves, lamps, and watering cans that look pulled out of a forest floor, made real by a quiet machine in a back room.
Principle
Objects that feel grown, not manufactured.
Every piece starts as a sketch of something from the woods — a bracket fungus, a coral, a morel. We model it in CAD, tune it for a 3D printer that won't blink at the overhang, and press start. What comes off the bed is sanded, sealed, and held up to a lamp to make sure the light catches it the way the reference did.
Nothing is mass-produced. Batches are small because our shelves are small. If a piece is sold out, the next print is usually queued for the same week.
Materials are plant-based PLA where possible — biodegradable, compost-ready, and honest about what it is. We don't pretend a 3D-printed thing is a ceramic thing; we make a case for the 3D-printed thing being its own kind of beautiful.
Process
Observe
A walk in the woods or reef. A shape is photographed, turned over, felt.
Model
The shape is rebuilt in CAD, then adapted for the printer's strengths and limits.
Print, finish, ship
Printed at home, sanded and sealed by hand, and boxed by the person who made it.
Have an idea?
We take a handful of custom commissions each month.
If there's a piece you've been looking for and can't find, tell us about it. We'll see if we can grow it.
